School Information
Kanwal Public School was established in 1911 as a one teacher school. From this humble beginning it grew to be the largest school on the Central Coast with an enrolment of over one thousand students in 1979.
When new schools were established at Gorokan and then later at Northlakes, the enrolment dropped to 635 in 1991. Urban growth on the northern side of the school gave rise to another enrolment surge with over 900 students enrolled in 2002.
While the school enrolment has reduced to 720 in 2008, it remains a large primary school by state standards. The school has a staff of 38 teachers, 6 School Administrative Support Staff and 5 School Learning Support Officers. It has large, modern facilities including a library, hall, canteen and two computer laboratories.
Kanwal Public School has a proud tradition of achievement in sport, cultural activities and civics and citizenship. It has a brass band, choir, dance groups for boys and girls and in 2008 entered a team in Tournament of the Minds. There are also opportunities for students in the Mathematics Olympiad, external academic competitions, web-design, debating, environmental education The Premier’s Reading and Spelling Challenges and public speaking.
